Let It Roll

Sometimes the storm is the reason to ride.
People who say that it is impossible to have it all do not wake up at 3:30 a.m. to meet the sunrise for breakfast. They do not know the nirvana of wearing a perfect pair of socks, or feel the peace of a world not yet fingerprinted up for the day by commuters, computers or cable.
They are trapped between the minutes of traffic jams and commercial breaks, and wear themselves a rut pacing back and forth from one wall to the next. The result is a beating frustration that hungers for the feeling of completion, and searches desperately for the quenching flow of fulfillment.
These are passionate people who instinctively know that they are made for more, and for this reason are haunted by the voice of their own unmet potential. These are intelligent and perceptive people, but they are oblivious to the most obvious of best-kept secrets: they already have it all.
Tomorrow I will wake up at 3:30, pack my gear, and head to the track for 5 X 1 mile speed drills. I will cuss and complain and I will probably cry because they are wretched bastards, but then I will swim 1500 yards and if I am still crying no one will be able to tell. I will shower and come home and take my daughter to the hospital to have the tubes put in her ears. If she cries, I will remember running mile 16 and I will bite the inside of my lip, which will pull and hurt because I will be smiling and telling her about big mountains and far away places.
I will let it roll in and rain down, and I will ride through it.
